New York Waterfowling

We moved back to WNY about three years ago.  My family and I did a reverse migration, leaving North Carolina to return to our traditional nesting grounds near the Great Lakes. One of the things that struck me as being odd is that NY doesn't have one central waterfowl association to represent hunters.  Instead there are many different clubs and associations that represent that area's interest and history.  This is not a bad thing because as you meet people from the different groups you really get a flavor of what hunting in that area is all about.  What I think we need to do is to tie all the pieces together to get the big picture of duck hunting in our state. The purpose of this space is two-fold: provide an area for all NY Waterfowlers to come together and share ideas, discuss issues, maybe trade a hunt.  The second purpose is to retain and promote the waterfowling heritage of New York. Our state offers a wide spectrum of waterfowling opportunities, here is a place to share pictures and stories of waterfowling in your corner of NY. Do you have pictures of your Grandfather's canvasback spread?  Do you remember the stories of how he hunted over live decoys or when he first joined DU?  Do you know the story of when snow geese started to appear on the Finger Lakes? This is the heritage we need to preserve.

In the coming weeks (keep in mind the early goose season is open and ducks open in a few weeks!!)  I will add a variety of links and interactive forums to this space.  For a start, here are some NY DEC links.
